Here, three characters, a young immigrant, a homeless and a young waitress rediscover themselves taking care of the other.
To see Sabine Azema and Daniel Auteil in the same movie is a rare and unmissable grace. Here they play a couple who gives new life to their relationship following... instinct. It's a nice comedy, perfectly acted and well directed by Arnaud and Jean-Marie Larrieu.
Apichatpong Weerasethakul (Tropical Malady director), makes a portrait of his parents (both doctors)' lives, before they became involved, setting their stories in two different time periods with recurring actions, conversations, feelings, characters. It can sound confusing but it is indeed a great film about who we are, how we change, what we fear and love.
Taiwanese director Hou Hsiao-hsien, one of the best living filmakers, IMO, directs Juliette Binoche in his first movie shot in Europe. All his poetics seems to be in the film, presented in the Un Certain Regard section at 2007 Cannes Film festival.
Just a clearer version of the trailer done for Crialese's exceptional movie. Nuovomondo (The Golden Door), that won the Silver Lion Revelation at Venice Film festival.
Here the quality of Crialese as a director is way more evident, IMO.
After watching Almodovar's latest masterpiece Volver, I thought to another of his movies I really love. It's La flor de mi secreto (The flower of my secret, 1995), with an exceptional Marisa Paredes (one of the best living actresses IMO), a beautiful story, and a very powerful use of flamenco (Joaquin Cortes is also in the cast).
On December 31st Anthony Hopkins (who was born in Port Talbot, Wales, in 1937) celebrates his 70th birthday. After the one I made last year, here's another small tribute to this fantastic actor's talent.
