Philae Temple, the island sacred to the goddess Isis, defined by Pierre Loti as the "Pearl of Egypt". When the high Dam was built, the building were all dismantled and rebuilt on another island, higher than the water of the lake.

The ancient quarries which furnished Egypt with granite can still been behind modern Aswan. This is where the famous "unfinished obelisk" is to be found. It would have been 42 meters high and would have weighed 1,150 tons, but it had cracked in several places and was never detached from the rock.
We were taken on a guided tour of Philae Temple.
The Temple is on a remote island just outside Aswan, Egypt and can only be reached by boat.
Our tour guide took the train all the way from Cairo to Aswan, just to show us around! We were only in Aswan for 1 day and then we headed up to Luxor.
