In a rare sitting on a Sunday, the Supreme Court is holding a special hearing on a petition seeking restraint on Tamil Nadu's ruling DMK and its allies from enforcing a statewide bandh on October 1 over the Sethusamudram project issue. There were incidences of sporadic violence across the country on Thursday after a nationwide bandh call given by the saffron brigade. While the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) whole-heartedly supported the strike, in most parts in its ideological laboratory Gujarat, it distanced itself from the bandh call.
A 12-hour bandh called by the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal affected normal life in the state on Monday. Though the strike was called against price hike, the worst hit were the poor who need to work every day to eat.
