I found this large spider on my doorstep in Mbakaou, Cameroon. It wasn't very aggressive, but I think I agitated it a bit with my prodding. I managed to drive it back into the forest where I hope it is living out a full and peaceful life. Not sure what species it is, so if anyone has any ideas, please feel free to post.
Some ants I found attacking a termite nest in Mbakaou, Cameroon. The termites (white) fought back, but weren't much of a match for the larger ants. The sounds in the background are made by the ants.
Matt poses for a photo with army ants as they cross a road. These things latch on pretty well once they get on your body, and they have an uncanny way of finding your most sensitive parts before biting down.
Dr. John Friel makes some catfish purchases at the Bangui fish market in the Central African Republic. As John notes, it is an easy mistake to mix up fish from different vendors, and it can quickly become problematic for a curator of fishes.

Bruce Deagle uncovers a rare fossilized frog at a quarry near Reno, NV. Dr. Mike Bell arrives to examine the specimen. This collecting expedition was organized as part of the Stanford Stickleback Course.
A crazy large beetle that I found in the town of Mbakaou, Cameroon. Looks a bit ferocious, but it was very tame. I have no idea what kind it is, so if you have any ideas, feel free to post them.
A view of the Pygmy camp on the bank of the Lobe where Bart Muhs and his family spent a very rainy evening. Here Mathieu answers some of my questions as we get our things together and prepare to head back to relative civilization in Kribi.
A fisherman is feeding his catch to a pelican on the docks of Avalon, Catalina Island. The pelican almost loses this fish, but makes a spectacular last-second save.
Matt shows some army ants that were crossing a road in Gabon. Our truck had already driven over their procession once, so parts of the column are in disarray.
Here is my friend, Cyrille Dening, figuring out the final details of a shipment of Cameroonian Aquarium Fish. He runs the company Gulf Aquatic out of Douala, Cameroon.
