Back in Korea, a video of what I have to look forward to now. Life in Korea continues at http://wingedeel.blo gspot.com . If anything is video worthy I'll put it up
The contrast between the countryside and the capital is amazing. The capital is clean (cleaner than Japan!) and has ultra-modern bits and Soviet apartment block bits mixed together. One of the weirdest places I have ever been to.
Merv is a huge site, mostly unexcavated, and we had it all to ourselves that day, in fact I did not see another tourist the entire time I was in the country...maybe that was because I was there in off season?
A buddy of mine found one of these while on a trip to China. Apparently you can get them here in Seoul too, but I have never seen one. It zaps bugs...
Honestly, I have never felt more like a redneck than I did then.
In the no man's land between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan..the Uzbek side was easy enough, I had to wait 4 hours to get through on the Turkmen side though...for reasons I can't get into here.
During the peak season, the town of Samarkand puts on this horrid light show. I find it disrespectful to the buildings and everyone involved with them. (It has to be pretty bad if I find it disrespectful). The buildings themselves are beautiful though.
I think I picked a bad day to go, hilarious, but bad. The wind was so strong I couldn't get down from where I was, I had to sit in a puddle for about 5 minutes until the wind died down enough for me to crawl down.
